What will you do when you get old?

I've found that I absolutely hate riding passenger in a vehicle. Some people just drive like a maniac and I constantly find myself trying to hit the breaks even though there's no break pedal. I'll always say something to the person about how I don't feel comfortable with how they're driving and that when I'm in the car with them could they please be a bit more of a defensive driver. It offends some people, which is really stupid. My mother is absolutely horrible at driving and the #1 person I hate to ride passenger with, and to make matters worse she drives a big SUV. I never ride with my mom, I always insist on driving because of how badly she drives. She doesn't stop at stop signs, cuts people off, hogs multiple lanes, takes up 2 parking spots, doesn't know how to pull in to a garage, back out of a driveway, or even park in a parking spot when there are cars on either side. She's also backed in to my car while it was in the driveway, removing the side view mirror, and then blamed it on me parking in her blind spot. So do you all hate riding passenger with people or do you not mind? If you hate it or know a bad driver you won't ever ride with again, please share your experience. |

I think I agree, but I've sort of learned to be able to balance and trust the driver I'm with however horrible I think their driving is. I feel most comfortable behind the wheel usually. On a road trip or something tho I don't mind every once in a while sitting in the back and just taking a nap or something. If we are going somewhere new and the drivers got no idea where to go then I'm more confident being the passenger when I have to give directions from my phone if the car doesn't have navigation. |

I refuse to ride passenger unless I'm with family and have no choice in the matter. With friends or colleagues, nope, I'm driving or I'm not going. I feel like I'm at the mercy of someone else when I'm the passenger, and I hate it. I need to be in control. |

Never had an issue with it. Although having said that, no one in my family are particularly great drivers. Regardless I don't have a choice since I'm not legally allowed to have a driving license. |

I feel the same way, but it's not so much about me being in control more than it is about not wanting others to be in control of me. |

Ah yeah I hate being in the car when my stepdad is driving, he's so needlessly fast and makes sharp turns and s*** all the time. He used to have a really fast car like I dunno 15 years ago or something so it's like he still thinks he's a race car driver from younger days... I find it pretty terrifying to be honest and until recently he didn't actually have his license so every time he's driven me somewhere I've been just waiting for him to do something stupid and catch the attention of the police, he's just not careful at all. My driving etiquette is pretty much "Don't drive like Aaron" and as such, I'm a good driver I don't get why people take stupid risks and drive like an a***. What's the point? Why are people in such a hurry? You're already getting to your destination like 100x faster than people who are walking, chill the f*** out. |

I only let my friends drive me if I'm passenger, even though some have questionable driving skill, lol. Most of them are decent drivers, so it's fine. I definitely get more paranoid in shotgun than I do if I'm behind the wheel, though. |

I'd say it depends on how much you trust the person driving. I trust my friends and family (They're the only ones who really drive me) so I have no problems with them driving me. I do prefer driving over sitting as a passenger as I just get bored and time passes faster when I'm driving. Just a preference based on boredom and not fear. |

This. There's only one person in my family I don't like being in the car with, my great aunt. I don't see her very often any more, but I saw her a lot growing up and she's an awful driver. Like, comically awful. Shouldn't even be allowed to drive awful. Couple stories: - She was driving me and my sister somewhere once. She pulled up to a roundabout and literally just turned right into oncoming traffic. Luckily, the traffic lights were on red, so nobody was moving. - She was driving my mum and her partner home from somewhere once and turned back to them to say something like "my driving is a running joke in the family, but I'm not a bad driver" and ended up veering off the road. That sounds like something from a comedy movie, but it happened. I'm sure there are more, but those are the ones I'm aware of. So yeah, I'd refuse to be in a car driven by her. |

Ubers love to speed and go crazy, probably to drop you off and get a new passenger quickly to make more money. Or maybe my perception of speed is messed up since the only time I take Uber is when I'm drunk going to a club/bar. |

Except for maybe one or two cases, the Uber drivers I rode with seemed fine. More generally I guess I'm just trusting of whoever's driving the car. I don't think I've ever really been concerned about the driver's ability, though now that I think about it, maybe it is a legitimate thing to worry about. Most of the time though I'm riding in a friend's car, so I'm obviously going to let them drive. |
